Water quality is a significant issue in Haiti. Purification methods include Bio sand filter, solar pasteurization and small-scale water treatment using buckets. Bio sand filter involve running a continue flow of water through sand of certain size. Germs are caught and consumed in a biologically active layer. Bucket filter involve treating the water chemically and running through sediment and activated charcoal filters. Pasteurization involves heating it to 160 degrees or using Ultra Violet light to kill germs. Currently, different models are being introduced into Maissade for consideration by the leadership.
